Lucy Connolly, the wife of Conservative Councillor Raymond Connolly, has been sentenced to 31 months in prison for calling for violence against hotels housing asylum seekers. Her inflammatory remarks were made on social media following a tragic incident in Southport where three girls were killed.
The 41-year-old childminder posted an expletive-laden message on X, formerly known as Twitter, on the same day as the incident. In her post, she demanded “mass deportation now,” declaring, “If that makes me racist, so be it.”
Connolly was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court after admitting her intention to stir up racial hatred. The court learned that Connolly, who resides on Parkfield Avenue in Northampton, jokingly remarked in a WhatsApp message on August 5 that her tweet to her 10,000 followers had “bitten me on the arse, lol.”
Prosecutor Naeem Valli highlighted Connolly’s disregard for the consequences of her words and described her messages as deeply troubling. Connolly’s actions have sparked widespread condemnation and raise concerns about the rising tide of anti-asylum sentiment in the UK.
