An Accra Circuit Court has granted bail to Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako, his wife Mouha Amoako, and another individual following a tragic accident involving their 16-year-old son, Elrad Salifu Amoako. The crash, which occurred in East Legon, resulted in the deaths of two young girls, aged approximately 11 and 12.
Each defendant was granted bail set at GH₵50,000, requiring two sureties. Reports indicate that Elrad was driving a Jaguar when it collided with an Acura, which subsequently caught fire.
The Ghana Police Service confirmed the arrests of Bishop Salifu Amoako and Mouha Amoako in a statement released on October 15, 2024. The statement read, “The Ghana Police Service has today, 15th October 2024, arrested suspects Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako and Mouha Amoako, parents of the suspect driver involved in the fatal accident that claimed two lives at East Legon on Saturday, 12th October 2024.”
According to police investigations, the incident unfolded on October 12, 2024, when Elrad, driving the Jaguar SUV with registration number GN 7801–20, collided with the Acura, which had registration number GR 2542-23. The collision occurred on Mensah Wood Street in East Legon, leading both vehicles to catch fire and burn beyond recognition.
The police detailed, “Three of the five victims in the Acura vehicle during the accident were rescued, and the other two identified as Justine Agbenu and Maame Dwomoh, both 12 years of age, lost their lives. Two of the rescued victims who sustained minor injuries were treated and discharged, while the third is still on admission receiving medical attention.”
Elrad and the other occupant in the Jaguar were also rescued and are currently receiving treatment at a hospital. The statement further noted that Bishop Salifu Amoako and his wife are assisting the investigation.
Additionally, a team from the Police Management Board, led by Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, visited the bereaved family on October 15, 2024, to express condolences. The IGP and his team also checked on the recovery of the injured victims at the hospital.
