Bagbin to Decide on Petition for Removal of Four MPs

Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin is set to rule today, Thursday, October 17, on a petition seeking the removal of four sitting Members of Parliament. The request has been put forward by the Minority, targeting Agona West MP Cynthia Morrison, Suhum MP Kojo Asante, Fomena MP Andrew Asiamah, and Amenfi Central MP Peter Kwakye Ackah.

The MPs in question have expressed their intention to contest as independent candidates in the upcoming December elections, prompting the petition for their removal.

Peter Kwakye Ackah, one of the MPs affected by the petition, stated he is not concerned about the anticipated ruling. “I have not declared that I am leaving the party. I have only expressed my intention to run as an independent candidate in the next parliament. Being independent does not necessarily mean leaving the party.”

He added, “If the Speaker rules that my seat is vacant, there’s little I can do. I understand that every action comes with consequences, and I am prepared for whatever follows.”
