“I Apologise for Supporting Otto Addo’s Return” – Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu

Former Ghana international Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has publicly apologized to Ghanaians for his role in advocating for the re-appointment of Otto Addo as head coach of the Black Stars.

The 33-year-old, who was part of a group supporting Addo’s return following the dismissal of Chris Hughton, has expressed regret after observing the team’s struggles under Addo’s leadership. Seven months into his second tenure, the Black Stars find themselves on the brink of missing the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, having secured only two points from four qualifying matches, which places Ghana in third position behind Angola and Sudan.

After Ghana’s recent 2-0 defeat to Sudan, Agyemang-Badu acknowledged the difficulties faced by Addo. “I apologise [as I was part] of those who advocated for the second coming of coach Otto Addo. If you go into my interviews, I gave him massive support but I’m sorry,” he told Onua TV. “It seems the task is beyond him.”

Since Addo’s appointment in March, the team has recorded just two victories, alongside three losses and three draws. The defeat against Sudan means that the Black Stars must win their next two AFCON qualifying matches in November, while also relying on Sudan to lose theirs in order to secure a spot in Morocco.
