Galilea M/A Primary School Classrooms Locked Over Unpaid Debt
- Galilea M/A Primary classrooms locked
- Unpaid debt owed to contractors since 2019
- Students stranded, 2-week payment ultimatum
Pupils at Galilea M/A Primary School in the Ga South Municipality found themselves without classrooms after contractors locked the facilities, citing unpaid debts owed by the government.
The construction firm, Geo’s Anointing Company Limited, took this drastic step to press for payment nearly six years after completing a six-unit classroom block.
Christopher Newman, the Public Relations Officer of Geo’s Anointing Company Limited, explained the situation during a media interview. “The project began in 2017 and was completed in 2019, but the company was yet to receive payment from the government,” he said. Frustrated by the lengthy delay, the contractor felt compelled to take action by locking the classrooms.
Following the closure, both the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Sylvester Mensah, and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Joseph Stephen Nyarni, reached out to the contractors, asking for a two-week ultimatum to resolve the payment issue. Newman stated, “After we locked the facility, both the MP and MCE reached out to us and assured of government’s commitment and that we would hear from them in two weeks.”
He added, “But if after two weeks we don’t get paid, we will come and lock it again.” The situation has left students and their families in distress as they await a resolution.
