Medeama Suffer First League Defeat

Medeama Sporting Club’s unbeaten run in the 2024-2025 Ghana Premier League season came to an abrupt end on Sunday, as they suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Bechem United. The Tarkwa-based side had previously gone five games without tasting defeat.

However, their impressive streak was shattered at the Nana Gyeabour Park in Bechem, courtesy of goals from Dalvin Yeboah and Emmanuel Abban. Yeboah struck early, finding the back of the net in the sixth minute to give Bechem United the lead.

The home side doubled their advantage just before halftime, with Abban scoring in the 44th minute. Medeama’s usually resilient defense was breached, and they struggled to recover from the setback.

In the post-match press conference, Medeama head coach Nebojsa Kapor reflected on the game, highlighting the mistakes his team committed. “When you open up like we did today, and make a big mistake just after a few minutes, it’s tough to recover,” Kapor noted.

Kapor refused to lay blame on his players, acknowledging that mistakes are an inherent part of the game. “No team in the world is ready for these kinds of mistakes, but this is also part of football. I don’t blame my players,” he said.

The Medeama coach attributed their struggles to their tactical approach, which left them vulnerable to Bechem United’s counter-attacks. “We were trying to create something in the first half, but our players’ positions were a little too forward, opening up too much space for Bechem,” Kapor explained.

Kapor praised Bechem United’s transition play, describing them as “one of the best teams in Ghana” in this aspect. Medeama’s inability to cope with Bechem’s quick transitions ultimately proved costly.

The defeat serves as a reality check for Medeama, who will look to regroup and bounce back in their next fixture. They face Nations FC on October 18, and Kapor will be hoping his team learns from their mistakes.

Medeama’s loss also raises questions about their title aspirations, but Kapor remains focused on the bigger picture. With the Ghana Premier League still in its early stages, Medeama have ample opportunity to rediscover their form.

As Medeama prepare for their next challenge, they will be determined to put this setback behind them and continue their push for success in the 2024-2025 Ghana Premier League season.
