Meta co-founder Mark Zuckerberg has officially become the second richest person in the world, overtaking Amazon chairman Jeff Bezos after a strong week of trading for Meta shares. On Friday, Zuckerberg’s estimated net worth climbed to $205.4 billion, following a $3.9 billion increase that day, while Bezos’s net worth stood at $203.9 billion.
Zuckerberg is now closely trailing Larry Ellison, who holds the No. 2 spot on the real-time billionaires list with a net worth of $208 billion, but remains significantly behind Elon Musk, the world’s richest person, with a net worth of $264 billion.
The surge in Zuckerberg’s wealth coincided with a more than 2% increase in Meta shares, which closed Friday at $595.94 after starting the week at $567.15. Notably, stocks associated with each billionaire’s primary companies saw increases of at least 2% on Friday, with Tesla shares leading the pack, gaining over 4% to reach $250.08.
This week has marked several milestones for Zuckerberg’s net worth. He reached the $200 billion mark on Thursday, making headlines as it was the first time that four billionaires with net worths of $200 billion or more appeared on the Forbes billionaire list simultaneously.
Zuckerberg’s ascent to the second position reflects the significant performance of Meta, as he holds 345 Class A and B shares in the company, which constitutes an approximate 13% stake. Since January, Meta shares have risen over 68%, increasing from a trading value of $346.29.
