Hiplife musician Skrewfaze, whose real name is Jehoshaphat Eshun, has raised alarm about the severe contamination of Ghana’s water bodies due to illegal mining activities, commonly referred to as galamsey.
During an appearance on Cape Coast’s Property FM, Skrewfaze lamented, “Check our water bodies and it’s messed up and so I keep asking myself is this the Ghana Kwame Nkrumah left for us, all because of greediness.” His comments reflect a growing frustration among citizens regarding the environmental impact of such practices.
The seasoned artist emphasized that while the public often holds the government accountable for the deteriorating state of water sources, individuals also share responsibility. “Sometimes inasmuch as we keep blaming the government, we need to also blame ourselves because we’ll be complaining about galamsey destroying our water bodies,” he stated.
Moreover, Skrewfaze pointed out a contradiction in the actions of those protesting illegal mining. He expressed his disbelief that many demonstrators would likely support the very politicians they criticize during election times. “Most of the people are demonstrating and holding placards saying stop galamsey now, it’ll shock you they’ll go and vote for the same people they are complaining about,” he fumed.
