A labour expert has cautioned that Organised Labour is unlikely to rescind its planned strike action against illegal mining if the government fails to address its demands.
Senyo Adjabeng emphasized that the decision to strike is a serious step taken after extensive consultations within the structured institution.
Adjabeng reiterated that the strike is a result of growing concerns over the devastating impact of illegal mining on the environment and economy.
He noted that the government’s commitment to addressing the issue, as expressed in recent meetings, has not been sufficient to deter Organised Labour from proceeding with the strike.
Adjabeng also highlighted the support Organised Labour receives from various stakeholders, making it difficult to cancel the action.
He suggested that ongoing discussions between the government and labour unions will continue until the strike takes place.
While some have speculated that the government may be attempting to undermine Organised Labour’s unity to prevent the strike, Adjabeng dismissed such claims
He argued that such a move would only exacerbate the situation and could further alienate the labour movement.
