Zoomlion Denies Responsibility for Delayed Payments to YEA Staff

Zoomlion Ghana Limited has issued a statement to address concerns about delayed payments to Youth Employment Agency (YEA) operatives under the Sanitation Module. The company clarified that it’s not responsible for the delays, which are caused by the government’s failure to disburse necessary funds ¹.

Zoomlion emphasized that the payment of YEA operatives’ allowances is managed entirely by the government and YEA. The company’s role is limited to processing payments to beneficiaries once funds are released ¹.

Despite overseeing daily activities of YEA operatives, Zoomlion has no authority over payment amounts or timing. This clarification comes amid previous controversies surrounding Zoomlion’s services, including allegations of pocketing GH¢400 from each beneficiary’s GH¢500 monthly allowance ².

Zoomlion denied these claims, explaining that the GH¢400 management fee covers logistics costs such as wheelbarrows, shovels, and brooms for operatives. The company reaffirmed its commitment to supporting operatives within the established framework, ensuring timely facilitation of payments once government funds are disbursed.

In a statement, Zoomlion expressed understanding of concerns about delayed payments in some regions. However, the company emphasized that it’s not responsible for these delays due to the government’s failure to disburse funds.

Zoomlion appealed to affected beneficiaries to address grievances through constructive engagement, avoiding harmful statements or actions that may tarnish its image.

The company believes open dialogue is crucial to resolving issues fairly. Zoomlion has faced similar controversies in the past, including disputes over beneficiary numbers and payment delays.

In 2018, Zoomlion clarified misconceptions surrounding its services, including the GH¢400 management fee and logistics procurement.

The company has consistently submitted quarterly and annual reports to YEA, demonstrating its commitment to transparency.

By addressing these concerns, Zoomlion aims to maintain a positive working relationship with YEA operatives and the government.
