Minister for Works and Housing Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has reaffirmed that a Bawumia-led government will prioritize job creation and economic growth if the New Patriotic Party (NPP) wins the 2024 elections.

Speaking at the Election 2024 Dialogue at GIMPA on October 3, 2024, Oppong Nkrumah outlined the NPP’s vision for Ghana’s future under Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s leadership. This vision is built on transforming Ghana’s economy through strategic industrialization.

The goal is to shift Ghana’s economy from dependence on raw materials to value addition and industrialization. This approach will create jobs, particularly for the youth, and ensure sustainable economic growth.

According to Oppong Nkrumah, Dr. Bawumia plans to move Ghana beyond being a raw material exporter to becoming a hub for value-added products. This will be achieved through the creation of technology hubs and industrial parks.

These initiatives will foster innovation, attract investment, and support small and medium enterprises (SMEs). They will also drive job creation and secure Ghana’s place in the global economy.

The ongoing digitalization agenda will also be leveraged to formalize the economy and improve government revenue collection. Significant gains have already been made through digital transformation initiatives.

Governance reforms aimed at enhancing transparency and efficiency will also be implemented. The NPP plans to introduce reforms that will streamline public services and hold government institutions accountable.

A Bawumia government will ensure that every public official is accountable, and corruption is rooted out at all levels of public service. This commitment to good governance is crucial for Ghana’s development.

The NPP’s manifesto also includes concrete plans to scale up affordable housing projects across the country. Public-private partnerships will be key to delivering housing solutions for low- and middle-income Ghanaians.

Youth employment remains a priority, with specific plans for education reform and entrepreneurship programs designed to equip young Ghanaians with the skills needed for the modern economy. Every year, millions of young people enter the job market, and it is the government’s duty to create opportunities for them to succeed.
