Nicholas Osei, widely known as Prophet Kumchacha and the founder of Heaven’s Gate Ministries, has announced his decision to withdraw from the upcoming 2024 presidential election. The prophet had previously intended to run as an independent candidate under the Kum People’s Party (KPP).
In an interview with Kingdom FM, Kumchacha explained that the stringent requirements imposed by the Electoral Commission (EC) played a significant role in his decision to step down. While he could afford the mandatory GHS 100,000 filing fee, he ultimately chose not to pay it after evaluating his prospects for success.
“I have money, I could have afforded the GHS 100,000 fee, but I can’t pay that amount knowing that I will lose,” he candidly stated.
He further elaborated that after gathering intelligence and conducting a personal survey, he concluded that he would likely fail to meet the EC’s initial vetting requirements. “I had gathered information and intelligence told me based on their survey, I won’t even go past EC’s requirement. The likes of Bernard Mornah and Sam Ankrah did not even have it easy, so I knew this year, I won’t stand a chance,” Kumchacha remarked.
Despite his withdrawal, the prophet maintained that he would have made a capable president and dismissed any concerns regarding his fluency in English.
