The Electoral Commission (EC) has released provisional statistics for the upcoming December general elections. According to the data, a total of 18,772,795 valid voters are expected to participate.
Of this number, 9,690,173 are female voters, while 9,082,622 are male voters. This represents a significant increase in the electoral roll.
Notably, 708,282 new voters have been added to the register for the December elections. This influx of new voters is expected to shape the electoral landscape.
Additionally, the EC has processed 332,110 transferred voters, ensuring that citizens can exercise their right to vote regardless of changes in residence.
The commission has also approved 2,167 proxy voters, enabling those unable to vote in person to participate through designated representatives.
Furthermore, 32,974 applicants are on the exceptions list, and 26,798 applicants are on the multiples list, undergoing verification and resolution.
During an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting in Accra on October 1, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa addressed concerns about the voter register.
Mensa assured stakeholders that the commission has largely resolved errors in the register, acknowledging some imperfections remain.
She emphasized that these errors are not uncommon in any registration process and that the EC is making concerted efforts to rectify them.
The EC’s efforts aim to ensure a credible and transparent electoral process, critical for Ghana’s democratic stability.
