Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has been suspended by FIFA for two matches due to “offensive behavior” during recent World Cup qualifiers.
The ban stems from incidents against Chile and Colombia in September.
Martinez repeated his controversial celebration from the 2022 World Cup, holding a replica Copa America trophy against his crotch after Argentina’s 3-0 victory over Chile.
He also struck a camera with his gloves as a cameraman approached him following the 2-1 defeat to Colombia.
While the Argentina Football Association expressed disagreement with the suspension, they acknowledged Martinez’s responsibility for his actions.
The goalkeeper will miss the upcoming qualifiers against Venezuela and Bolivia in October.
Martinez, who was awarded the Golden Glove at the 2022 World Cup, has been known for his provocative celebrations.
His actions have drawn criticism and controversy on multiple occasions.
