Alan Calls for Thorough Investigation of 2024 Voter Register
- M4C joins call for 2024 Voter Register audit.
- Proposed Technical Working Group for transparency.
- Audit to review voter data since 2020.
- Goal: Credible 2024 Ghana elections.
The Movement for Change (M4C) leader and presidential hopeful, Alan Kyerematen, has joined forces with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs). They are advocating for a forensic audit of the 2024 Voter Register by Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC).
This call for transparency aims to ensure the credibility of the upcoming general elections. In a statement issued on September 23, M4C’s Director of Elections Planning and Coordination, Nana Ohene-Ntow, outlined the proposal.
The statement suggested establishing a high-level Technical Working Group (TWG) chaired by the EC Commissioner. The TWG would comprise representatives of cleared presidential candidates and consultants handling EC data management.
Their task would be to oversee a comprehensive audit of the current Voter Register. Source documents for the audit include the 2020 Voters Register, Limited Registration information since 2021, Voter Transfers, and Special Voters Lists.
Candidates with evidence of compromised data are requested to submit it to the TWG before the audit begins. The collaborative process aims to produce a Final Voters Register acceptable to all contestants and voters.
The proposed timeline for the exercise is September 30 to October 11, enabling the EC to release the Final Voters Register by October 14.
This joint approach ensures transparency, settling lingering issues around the Voters Register and paving the way for free, fair, and credible elections on December 7, 2024.
