Dr. Hassan Ayariga, the flagbearer of the All People’s Congress (APC), has announced an ambitious policy plan for the creative arts sector, promising to create platforms for emerging artists if elected in the December 7, 2024 elections.

In a detailed policy statement, Ayariga outlined his vision for the music industry in Ghana, focusing on education, innovation, and investment. He stated, “APC will build platforms for artistes and producers to mentor upcoming talent, help them refine their skills and understand the industry, and create platforms in each region to mentor upcoming musicians from infancy to adulthood.”

Additionally, he plans to launch an online radio platform to enable emerging artists to showcase their talents by singing or rapping via phone and microphone.

Ayariga emphasized that enhancing the music industry requires collaboration among artists, industry professionals, government, and stakeholders. He presented ten key strategies that the APC intends to implement to promote growth and international recognition for Ghana’s music scene:

  1. Modern Studios and Music Education: The APC will establish new music schools and workshops focused on the technical and creative aspects of music.
  2. Market Opportunities: The party aims to support Ghanaian artists in leveraging global streaming platforms and social media to expand their reach and monetize their content.
  3. Production Quality: Investments in high-quality recording studios and collaboration between artists and top-tier producers will enhance the overall production quality.
  4. Intellectual Property Rights: Strengthening copyright laws and raising awareness about the importance of registering work will protect artists’ intellectual property.
  5. Music Exposure Platforms: The APC plans to create opportunities for local and international performances, encouraging collaborations with global artists.
  6. Support from Government and Private Sector: A music production fund will be established, alongside policies to facilitate international tours and distribution.
  7. Industry Network: Strengthening associations like MUSIGA (Musicians Union of Ghana) and promoting collaboration among industry stakeholders will foster a thriving music ecosystem.
  8. Global Promotion: Using music for cultural diplomacy and aiming for international awards will enhance the global visibility of Ghanaian music.
  9. Diversification of Genres: Encouragement for artists to explore various genres will help reach broader audiences.
  10. Music Business Development: Training for music managers and establishing a Music Royalty Collection Agency will ensure fair compensation for artists.
