Court Orders Removal of 580 Names from Manhyia South Voter Register

The Electoral Commission (EC) in Ghana’s Ashanti Region has started the process of removing approximately 580 names from the Manhyia South voter register.

This decision comes after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) identified irregularities in the voter register during the voter transfer exercise and sought legal clarification.

Background of the Issue

During the voter transfer exercise, the NPP noticed unusual transfers to the Manhyia South constituency.

Despite initial limitations due to the Local Instrument (LI), the party decided to investigate further during the exhibition period.

They discovered abnormal transfers in about five or six polling stations out of 107 in Manhyia South.

Court Ruling and Next Steps

The Kumasi Magistrate Court, presided over by Her Worship Deborah Gyaawa Donkor, ruled in favor of the NPP, ordering the EC to return the affected voters to their original constituencies.

Alhaji Haruna Alhassan, NPP Manhyia South Constituency Secretary, assured that the party will closely monitor the situation to ensure compliance.

Call to Action

Alhaji Haruna Alhassan urged other NPP stronghold constituencies to scrutinize their voter registers for potential anomalies and seek redress.

This move aims to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.
