Manhyia Palace Rejects Afia Pokua’s ‘Cursed’ Apology
- Manhyia Palace has refused to accept Afia Pokua's apology
- Her comments had sparked outrage among the Ashanti people
- The representative emphasized that Pokua's actions had crossed a line
In a dramatic turn of events, Manhyia Palace has refused to accept Afia Pokua’s apology, despite hours of pleading.
The decision comes in the wake of the journalist’s controversial comments about the Asantehene and the Ashanti Kingdom.
Pokua, a journalist with Agoo TV, had faced widespread condemnation for her remarks made on Mona Gucci’s show, Bribi Gye Gye Wo.
She had criticized the Asantehene for his perceived silence on ongoing conflicts between the Ashantis and other tribes, including the Bonos.
Her comments had sparked outrage among the Ashanti people, leading to protests and public condemnation.
Today, an elder from the Ashanti Kingdom made an emotional appeal on Pokua’s behalf, highlighting her remorse and the sincerity of her apology.
However, the Otumfuo’s representative remained firm in his decision, stating that in certain cases, apologies alone are not sufficient.
The representative emphasized that Pokua’s actions had crossed a line and that she would have to face the consequences of her words.
He sternly rebuked her, reminding her of the respect due to the Asantehene and the Ashanti Kingdom.
“Who do you think you are to disrespect the Otumfuo? If you think you’ve grown wings, don’t aim them at Kumasi,” he said. “Take your cursed self and your troubles with you. Do not ever return here.”
With the palace’s decision final, Afia Pokua, Mona Gucci, and their delegation were forced to leave Manhyia Palace, their mission to seek forgiveness unsuccessful.
