Vote NDC to End Corruption – Rex Omar
- Rex Omar accuses President Nana Akufo-Addo of enabling appointees to misappropriate state funds
- He urges Ghanaians to vote for John Dramani Mahama
- Omar highlights that under Mahama's leadership, officials misusing funds faced consequences
Rex Omar, the renowned Highlife artist and spokesperson for the NDC’s 2024 Manifesto on Creative Arts & Tourism, has expressed deep concern over the current government’s handling of public funds.
In a recent interview, he criticized President Nana Akufo-Addo for allowing his appointees to misappropriate state resources.
“The president, who should safeguard the public purse, is enabling his appointees to embezzle funds and defends them when they’re caught,” Omar remarked.
He referenced the case of Abuga Pele, a former MP sentenced to six years in prison in 2018 for his role in the GH¢4.1 million GYEEDA scandal.
Omar used this incident to highlight the differences between Akufo-Addo’s administration and that of former President John Dramani Mahama, urging Ghanaians to support Mahama in the upcoming elections.
“Vote for John Dramani Mahama because during his tenure, any appointees found mishandling public funds faced consequences,” Omar emphasized, promoting Mahama’s leadership as a pathway to restoring accountability.
As a dedicated NDC supporter, Rex Omar was appointed spokesperson for the party’s creative arts agenda during the 2020 elections, indicating a potential role in the Tourism, Arts, and Culture Ministry if the NDC wins.
His comments come as Ghana approaches its general elections on December 7, 2024, where Mahama will contend against Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Nana Kwame Bediako of the New Force Movement, and Alan Kyerematen of the Movement for Change.
