Renowned Ghanaian musician Lamisi has officially launched her philanthropic foundation, Lamisi Fata Foundation, with a resounding concert dubbed “Concert for Change” at the Alliance Francaise in Accra. The foundation’s primary objective is to promote menstrual hygiene education and provide reusable and disposable sanitary pads to underprivileged girls in northern Ghana.
The launch event commenced with a conference titled “Pad it Forward,” which brought together experts from the health, human rights, and media sectors to educate students from Ashaiman, Nima, and Kanda on the significance of menstrual hygiene.
The conference served as a platform for knowledge sharing and awareness creation, equipping the students with essential information on menstrual health and hygiene.
The “Concert for Change” followed, featuring Lamisi and her band performing authentic African music inspired by her roots and Kusasi culture from northern Ghana. The electrifying performance had the audience enthralled, with many joining in to sing and clap along.
Lamisi’s foundation seeks to address the pressing issue of menstrual hygiene in deprived communities, where access to sanitary products is often limited.
Through the Lamisi Fata Foundation, the musician aims to make a positive impact on the lives of young girls, empowering them to prioritize their health and well-being.
The event drew attendance from esteemed officials, including representatives from the French Embassy, Amnesty International Ghana, women’s groups, students, and members of the media.
Lamisi’s initiative has been hailed as a significant step towards promoting menstrual hygiene education and supporting the needs of marginalized communities.
The success of the “Concert for Change” and “Pad it Forward” conference marks the beginning of Lamisi Fata Foundation’s journey to create lasting change in northern Ghana.
As Lamisi Fata Foundation continues to grow, its impact is expected to resonate throughout Ghana, inspiring others to join the movement towards improved menstrual hygiene and empowerment for all.
The foundation’s mission is aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), Goal 4 (Quality Education), and Goal 5 (Gender Equality).
