John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed his condolences following the passing of Herman Kojo Chinery-Hesse.
The renowned tech entrepreneur and visionary died from cardiac arrest on Monday, September 16, 2024.
Often referred to as “the Bill Gates of Africa,” Mr. Chinery-Hesse was a trailblazer in the tech industry, making significant contributions to Ghana’s technological advancement.
Born in 1963 in Dublin, Ireland, he founded theSOFTtribe in 1991, which became the oldest and largest software company in Ghana.
Under his leadership, theSOFTtribe introduced transformative innovations that propelled Ghana’s digital evolution, leaving an indelible mark on the nation’s tech landscape.
In a heartfelt social media tribute on X, Mahama reflected on Chinery-Hesse’s immense impact, stating, “We’ve lost a great man and a dear friend. This is a tremendous loss for Ghana and our IT community. May we be inspired to create many more like Herman. Rest in peace, Herman.”
