In the heart of Ghana’s Ashanti Kingdom, where history is rich and symbolic, the celebration of tradition takes on a new gleam.
Recently, as part of the 25th anniversary festivities of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the king made a grand entrance in a Rolls-Royce Phantom, a majestic vehicle that has been part of the Asantehene lineage since 1949.
This classic ride links three generations of Asantehenes: Otumfuo Sir Osei Agyemang Prempeh, Otumfuo Opoku Ware II, and the current ruler, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Adding to this illustrious heritage, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has now unveiled a rare Mercedes 600 vintage car, a distinguished member of the Manhyia Palace’s collection.
Previously owned by Asantehene Otumfuo Opoku Ware II, this vehicle was showcased at the Akwasidae Festival on September 15, 2024, in Kumasi.
The Mercedes 600, parked proudly at the festival, was heavily guarded, highlighting its royal significance and cherished status.
This newest gem in the Ashanti Kingdom’s vintage car collection enhances the palace’s prestige and historical depth.
Sources suggest that such vehicles were either sold or gifted to notable figures, including members of the British monarchy and various heads of state, further adding to their esteemed legacy.
