Students Trapped After University Building Collapses Amid Heavy Rainfall

Several students at the University of Benin (UNIBEN) are reported to be trapped after a multi-story building collapsed in the state.
The incident occurred early Saturday morning on Ekhator Street in Ekosodin, a neighborhood predominantly housing students.
According to report, the collapse happened following intense rainfall in Benin City, Edo State. Rescue operations are currently underway.
A student, who wished to remain anonymous, reported that a university rescue team has successfully freed some individuals from the rubble, though several have sustained serious injuries.
These injured individuals have been swiftly transported to local hospitals for treatment.
The student further noted that one person remains trapped under the debris, having called from inside the building to request help. Rescue efforts are ongoing to locate and assist this individual.
The Dean of Students from UNIBEN is present at the scene, working with the rescue team to coordinate the response.
The university administration has not yet issued an official statement regarding the cause of the collapse or the total number of people affected.
