Powerful Typhoon Batters Shanghai

A powerful typhoon, Bebinca, made landfall near Shanghai, China, on Monday, causing widespread disruption and evacuations.

The storm, the strongest to hit the city in 75 years, brought with it heavy rain, strong winds, and flooding.

As a precaution, over 400,000 people in the Shanghai Metropolitan area were evacuated ahead of the typhoon’s arrival.

Hundreds of flights were canceled, train services were halted, and highways were closed. The city’s 25 million residents were advised to stay indoors.

Videos posted online showed the devastating effects of the storm, with trees uprooted, streets flooded, and billboards blown down.

The typhoon caused significant damage to infrastructure and disrupted daily life in the city.

Chinese state media reported that at least four people were killed and 95 injured when Typhoon Bebinca passed through China’s southern Hainan island earlier this month.

The storm also caused severe flooding in Southeast Asia, resulting in hundreds of deaths in Vietnam and Myanmar.

As Bebinca moves inland, authorities are bracing for heavy rain and high winds in neighboring provinces. The storm’s impact is expected to continue for several days.
