Next NDC Govt Will Tackle Galamsey – Suhuyini

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has pledged to tackle the galamsey menace head-on if it wins the December 7 general elections. Alhassan Suhuyini, Ranking Member on Parliament’s Lands and Natural Resources Committee, made this assurance.

Suhuyini commended civil society organizations (CSOs) and labour unions for their efforts in combating galamsey. He promised that a John Dramani Mahama-led government would engage constructively with these groups.

The Tamale North lawmaker criticized the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration’s response to galamsey, labeling it “clueless” and “pretentious.”

Suhuyini called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to address the nation on the state of the environment. He demanded immediate and decisive actions to combat galamsey.

Galamsey’s devastating impacts on the environment and public health are alarming. Despite government promises and initiatives, the situation worsens.

The NDC assures Ghanaians of its commitment to addressing galamsey through comprehensive policies outlined in its manifesto.

These policies will balance economic realities driving illegal mining with environmental protection. Suhuyini emphasized the need for stakeholders to collaborate on sustainable solutions.

The NDC commends efforts by individuals and communities fighting galamsey and reaffirms solidarity with affected communities. NDC aims to build a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future for Ghana.
