The Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, Dr. Prince Hamid Armah, recently launched the Rent Control Department’s Digital Platform.
This marks a significant step towards improving inclusivity and service delivery within the rental housing sector in Ghana.
The platform, accessible at rentcontrol.mwh.gov.gh, goes beyond just implementing new technology.
Dr. Armah emphasized its role in empowering Ghanaians: “The Rent Control Department plays a crucial role in ensuring everyone has access to safe and affordable housing, as mandated by the Rent Act 220.
However, outdated manual processes have created delays and frustrations for both landlords and tenants.”
Dr. Armah recounted a visit by the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to the Rent Control Department in July 2020.
Witnessing long queues and inefficient procedures, the Vice President pledged to digitize the department’s operations for better accessibility and responsiveness.
Following this commitment, the Ministry of Works and Housing partnered with SuperTech Limited to implement the digital transformation.
Phase I is now complete, with 15 offices across 11 regions already digitized.
Dr. Armah acknowledged the challenges faced but celebrated this milestone as a step towards improved public service for Ghanaians.
The digital platform is expected to revolutionize how the Rent Control Department functions, ultimately leading to a more efficient and equitable rental housing environment.
This shift promises to benefit both landlords and tenants by removing unnecessary delays and frustrations associated with manual procedures.
