Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas, African Union High Representative for Silencing the Guns, has called on Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) to take immediate action to restore trust among stakeholders ahead of the upcoming elections.

His call comes amid concerns raised by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and other groups over irregularities in the voter register and other issues.

Speaking at the inaugural Diplomatic Honours ceremony in Accra, Dr. Ibn Chambas emphasized the importance of transparency in the electoral process.

He stressed that the EC can still regain the confidence of political parties and stakeholders by taking concrete steps to ensure openness and accountability.

Dr. Ibn Chambas noted that it is not too late for the EC to work towards winning the trust and confidence of all parties and stakeholders in the electoral process.

He specifically recommended that the EC publish polling station results on its website to advance and enhance the credibility and transparency of the process.

This measure, he said, would greatly increase the trust of stakeholders and sound like music to some of Ghana’s partners who have made this recommendation repeatedly.

Dr. Ibn Chambas’ call to action is a clear indication that the EC still has an opportunity to address the concerns of stakeholders and ensure a credible and transparent electoral process.

The upcoming elections are crucial for Ghana’s democracy, and the EC’s actions will play a significant role in determining the outcome.

By taking immediate action to address the concerns of stakeholders, the EC can help ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process that reflects the will of the Ghanaian people.
