The Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) has declared a nationwide strike, commencing on Monday, September 16, 2024.
This drastic measure comes after the government’s failure to address the Association’s demands for improved working conditions.
Despite numerous protests and negotiations, the government has not fulfilled its promises, leading to the Association’s frustration.
A statement signed by National Chairman George Ansong on September 13 outlined the reasons for the strike.
One major grievance is the government’s failure to implement new rates for Vehicle Maintenance and related allowances, despite a prior agreement.
Another concern is the non-release of Tier Two deductions to Fund Managers since January 2024.
Furthermore, the government has neglected to recalculate interest on Tier Two pension funds from 2010 to 2016.
The SSA-UoG has directed all member campuses to adhere strictly to the strike directive.
The Association emphasized that the government’s inaction has left them no choice but to take drastic measures.
The strike is expected to impact university operations nationwide, as the SSA-UoG demands improved working conditions and resolution of their grievances.
