Prioritize Teacher Welfare, NAGRAT Tells Political Parties
- NAGRAT prioritizes teacher welfare.
- Governments neglect teachers, focus on students.
- NAGRAT demands better working conditions.
- Improve Free SHS policy, don't cancel.
The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has urged political parties to prioritize teacher welfare in their education policies.
NAGRAT argues that successive governments have focused on benefiting students at the expense of teachers, leading to demotivation and poor working conditions.
The association highlights issues like lack of accommodation for teachers in rural areas, delayed payment of allowances, and inadequate facilities for teaching and learning.
These issues remain unaddressed, despite repeated promises from political parties.
Atindana Baba Joseph, NAGRAT’s Ashanti Regional Secretary, expressed frustration that political parties’ policies always focus on students.
He emphasized that teachers are neglected, despite being the implementers of these policies.
NAGRAT demands that political parties make teachers the central element in enhancing education.
The association wants improved welfare packages, housing policies, and facilities for teachers.
NAGRAT also wants the Free SHS policy improved, not cancelled, to ensure teachers are motivated to teach effectively.
Dr. Christian Addai-Poku, Registrar of the National Teaching Council, defended the Teacher Licensure Examination and called for politicians to engage with technocrats on educational policies.
