NSS Warns Against Illegal Payments for Service Postings
- Paying or accepting money to influence NSS postings is illegal
- Both the payer and receiver of bribes will face legal consequences
- NSS and security agencies are actively monitoring to prevent these illegal practices
The National Service Scheme (NSS) has issued a stern warning against any attempts to influence service postings through illicit payments.
This caution comes in the wake of the release of postings for 106,223 university graduates for the 2024-2025 service year.
Armstrong Essah, Director of Corporate Affairs for the NSS, spoke with JoyNews, stressing the Scheme’s dedication to combating “special postings,” a term denoting postings manipulated by illegal payments.
Essah clarified, “It is unlawful for anyone to pay money to influence a posting. The process is not for sale. Paying to secure a specific posting or accepting money to affect a posting is illegal.”
He also noted that both the payers and receivers of such bribes would be held accountable.
“Accepting money with the expectation of securing a favorable posting is also illegal. Management and relevant authorities are aware of these practices, and with the 2024-2025 postings, we have implemented measures to deter public engagement in these activities.”
Essah emphasized that anyone involved in bribing or accepting bribes for postings will face legal repercussions. The NSS, in collaboration with security agencies, has set up a joint effort to monitor and curb these illegal activities.
He urged the public to avoid engaging in such practices, highlighting that they undermine the integrity of the service scheme. “We strongly advise the public to avoid these actions. They are completely unacceptable,” he added.
The NSS has assigned 106,223 personnel for their mandatory national service for the 2024/25 service year.
All personnel must adhere to the validation and registration procedures, which will start on September 12 and conclude on September 30, 2024, with the service commencing on October 1, 2024.
