Pop superstar Taylor Swift has publicly endorsed Kamala Harris for the 2024 presidential election, following Harris’s debate with former President Donald Trump. Swift made the announcement via Instagram late Tuesday night, expressing her support for Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election,” Swift stated in her post. “I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.”
Swift praised Harris as a “steady-handed, gifted leader,” emphasizing her belief that the country could achieve more under a leadership characterized by calm rather than chaos.
Accompanying her endorsement was a photo of Swift with a cat, signed “Childless Cat Lady,” a nod to comments made by JD Vance, Trump’s vice-presidential candidate. Vance faced criticism for a 2021 video in which he referred to several prominent Democrats, including Harris, as “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives.”
Swift also highlighted Walz’s advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and women’s bodily autonomy, noting his longstanding commitment to these causes.
The singer’s decision to publicly announce her vote was partly driven by concerns over misinformation. Swift mentioned being unsettled by an AI-generated image that falsely depicted her endorsing Trump, which prompted her to clarify her position. “It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation,” she said. “It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter.”
Swift’s endorsement adds to a growing list of celebrities who have supported Harris, including John Legend, Olivia Rodrigo, George Clooney, and Spike Lee. In contrast, Trump has received endorsements from figures such as former wrestler Hulk Hogan, TV personality Amber Rose, and billionaire Elon Musk.
