Kwabena Kwabena’s Manager Claims Funds for 2016 NPP Campaign Song Were Misappropriated

Nana Poku Ashis, manager of highlife musician Kwabena Kwabena, has made shocking revelations about the composition of a campaign song for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2016. Ashis disclosed that individuals accepted money on behalf of Kwabena Kwabena without his consent, despite the artiste’s belief that he created the song voluntarily and for free.
“Some people charged on his head. Some of his friends that led him to go and meet the party leadership, charged on his head. So, the party knows that they’ve given Kwabena something through somebody. Where the money dey? He never got the money,” Ashis stated on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning show.
Ashis further revealed that when Kwabena Kwabena approached the party to receive payment, he was denied, as executives believed he had already been officially paid. Despite this incident, Kwabena Kwabena continued to support the party, only to be neglected after their victory.
Ashis has since advised musicians to engage with political parties on business terms and charge accordingly, warning them against involvement in political talks for their own safety.
Kwabena Kwabena’s 2016 campaign song, “Vote Number 1,” became a hit, contributing to the NPP’s electoral success. However, the artiste has since vowed to never compose a song for a political party without official payment, following his negative experience.
