Ghana Forced to Find Foreign Venue for Home Games After Baba Yara Approval Withdrawn
- CAF has withdrawn its approval of Baba Yara Stadium for hosting Category 3 international matches
- The GFA must now find an alternative venue outside Ghana
- Ghana's upcoming qualifier against Sudan on October 11 will be played at a new location
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has revoked its conditional approval for the Baba Yara Stadium to host international matches, forcing Ghana to find an alternative venue for its upcoming home games.
Despite initially granting permission for Ghana’s opening match against Angola in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, CAF has reconsidered its decision following observations made during the game.
The governing body deemed the stadium inadequate for hosting Category 3 international matches.
CAF cited persistent issues with the playing field and other Ghanaian stadiums, including Cape Coast Stadium and Accra Sports Stadium, as reasons for its withdrawal of approval.
As there are no other CAF-approved Category 3 stadiums within Ghana, the GFA must now seek an alternative venue outside the country for the remaining qualifiers. The next home game is against Sudan on October 11.
Ghana’s disappointing start to the qualifiers, with a loss to Angola and a draw against Niger, has added pressure to find a suitable solution for their home matches.
