Asamoah Gyan Leaves NPP

Ghanaian football icon Asamoah Gyan has officially parted ways with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Bawumia campaign team, declaring his detachment from political affiliations.

In a statement shared on social media on September 11, 2024, Gyan revealed his decision to step back from politics and refocus on his roles as a former athlete and philanthropist.

Gyan, who had been active in political circles earlier this year, did not elaborate on the reasons behind his departure but emphasized his commitment to supporting Ghanaian youth.

He stated, “I acknowledge that I haven’t been fully dedicated to our youth and the broader Ghanaian community. Moving forward, I will solely concentrate on humanitarian efforts and development projects, devoid of any political involvement.”

In his statement, Gyan underscored his intention to continue his work through the Asamoah Gyan Foundation, the Moah Green Foundation, and the All-Regional Games, aiming to enhance sports and educational opportunities for young Ghanaians.

“This shift is about focusing on our children, our communities, and our continent. With the help of international partners, royal families, and philanthropic organizations, we can drive meaningful change and empower our youth to achieve their full potential.”

He concluded by expressing his desire to contribute to the growth of Ghanaian youth through sports academies, training centers, and mentorship programs.

“Sports have been my saving grace, teaching me resilience and the power of perseverance. I want every young person to experience these benefits and succeed both on and off the field.”

Previously, Gyan had served as the chairman of the youth and sports sub-committee for the Bawumia 2024 manifesto and had been visible in various campaign events supporting Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
