The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah, has proposed a innovative solution for the abandoned E-Block facility in Sekyere Afram Plains District.
During a visit to the site, the Minister suggested repurposing the facility into an Agricultural Research Institute.
The E-Block project was initially intended as a community-day senior high school for the district but has remained abandoned since its completion.
Hon. Osei Mensah expressed concerns about the school’s remote location, citing difficulties for students to access it.
Despite being fully furnished, the facility has remained unused since its completion in 2017. The Minister noted that the initial project aimed to address the district’s lack of senior high schools.
However, the location’s inaccessibility has raised concerns about student enrollment and retention. Hon. Osei Mensah proposed converting the facility to maximize its potential, citing instances of parents withdrawing their children due to the distance.
The proposed conversion to an Agricultural Research Institute will optimize the facility’s usage and address concerns about accessibility.
The Minister also conducted inspections of other projects in the district, including a newly commissioned court and a nearly completed hospital.
