Story Highlights
  • 2-1 win over Montenegro; goals by Moore and Wilson.
  • 3-1 victory against Iceland; hat-trick by Akturkoglu.
  • Romania and Kosovo win

Les Bleus breathed a sigh of relief with a 2-0 win over Belgium, bouncing back from last week’s loss. Meanwhile, Italy extended their winning streak with a victory against Israel.

Italy continued their perfect start to the UEFA Nations League on Monday, defeating Israel 2-1, while France edged out Belgium 2-0, and Erling Haaland scored a late winner for Norway against Austria.

Italy, coming off an impressive away win in France, played against Israel in Budapest due to security concerns in the Middle East. Davide Frattesi and Moise Kean scored in each half to secure the win at the Bozsik Arena, home of Honved. Frattesi’s goal came from a precise cross by Federico Dimarco, and Kean added a second with his first Italy goal in nearly three years. Mohamed Abu Fani scored late for Israel.

With this victory, Italy leads Nations League Group A2 with six points, while France and Belgium are tied with three points each. France’s 2-0 win over Belgium in Lyon saw goals from Randal Kolo Muani and Ousmane Dembele. Kolo Muani opened the scoring after a mishit shot from Dembele was saved by Belgian keeper Koen Casteels. Dembele later added a second with a brilliant solo effort.

In Group B3, Norway secured a 2-1 victory over Austria in Oslo, thanks to a late goal from Manchester City’s Erling Haaland. Felix Myhre initially put Norway ahead, but Marcel Sabitzer equalized for Austria. Haaland scored the decisive goal after a lengthy VAR review for offside.

In the same group, RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko scored a hat-trick in Slovenia’s 3-0 win over Kazakhstan in Ljubljana.

In Group B4, Wales earned their first win under new coach Craig Bellamy with a 2-1 away victory over Montenegro, following a goalless draw against Turkey. Kieffer Moore and Harry Wilson scored for Wales within the first three minutes, with Driton Camaj later pulling one back for the hosts.

Turkey defeated Iceland 3-1 in Izmir, thanks to a hat-trick from Benfica’s Kerem Akturkoglu.

In League C, Romania and Kosovo also secured victories on Monday.
