My Legal Experience Shapes My Governance Approach – Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has highlighted how his legal background has consistently guided his approach to governance.

Speaking at the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) annual conference on September 9 in Kumasi, he emphasized that the discipline and fairness he gained from his legal career have been fundamental in his public service role.

Akufo-Addo explained that his commitment to justice and democracy, carried from his time in the courtroom, has been a driving force in his political career. As President, he has worked to embed the principles of justice, transparency, and accountability into Ghana’s governance framework.

The event, themed “Ensuring High Standards and Integrity in Public Life: The Role of the Legal Profession,” was attended by notable figures including Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo, Attorney General and Minister of Justice Godfred Yeboah Dame, and the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Reflecting on his past, Akufo-Addo recalled his involvement in key legal battles during the 1980s and 1990s against oppressive regimes, which reinforced his dedication to the rule of law and democracy. He praised the Ghana Bar Association for its role as a defender of democratic values and the rights of the oppressed.

The President noted that his presidency continues his legal career’s legacy, reflecting his ongoing commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting the rights of all Ghanaians.
