John Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has confirmed the party’s demonstration on September 17 to demand an audit of the voter register.
Addressing NDC supporters in Sampa, Jaman North District, Bono Region, Mahama urged them to gather at EC offices to ensure the commission does the right thing before the December 7 elections.
He highlighted the need for a thorough audit of the voter register, citing many shortfalls that could compromise the integrity of the elections.
Mahama emphasized that a free, fair, and peaceful election requires the EC to up their game and correct the register’s anomalies.
The demonstration, he explained, aims to pressure the EC to take action and ensure a transparent electoral process.
NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia had previously announced the demonstration, which will take place in every town with an EC office.
Mahama encouraged NDC supporters to wear their party t-shirts and demonstrate peacefully to demand the EC’s attention.
He thanked the party and those who endorsed his nomination forms, presented to the EC by Nketia on Monday.
Mahama reminded supporters of the importance of voting, citing the consequences of electing incompetent leaders and the opportunity for change offered by the 1992 constitution.
He appealed to the people of Sampa to vote for the NDC and its parliamentary candidate, promising to prioritize road development, including the Berekum Sampa road, to boost economic growth.
