A massive flood has ravaged Chad, causing extensive devastation across the nation.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reports that the disaster has left over 1.5 million people affected and claimed at least 341 lives.
The relentless rains have struck all 23 provinces, causing significant damage to infrastructure, homes, and farmland.
According to government figures, nearly 164,000 homes have been destroyed, and more than 70,000 cattle have perished.
Additionally, 259,000 hectares of crops have been ruined.
The eastern province of Ouaddai has been particularly hard-hit, with a school collapse resulting in the tragic deaths of 14 students and their teacher.
In the northern Tibesti province, at least 54 people have died as a result of the flooding.
The UN has expressed alarm over the increasing frequency of severe weather events, attributing them to the ongoing climate crisis. They are calling for urgent action and increased funding to tackle this climate emergency.
