Veteran Ghanaian Highlife artiste Rex Omar has thrown his weight behind the proposed “24-hour Economy Policy” initiative by National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Mahama. In an interview with Michachu TV, Omar, a staunch NDC supporter, praised Mahama’s vision, describing him as “current” and in touch with modern trends.

“Mahama knows what he’s doing, he’s current, he knows what’s up, Bawumia is old school. He’s younger but his thinking is old school,” Omar said, drawing a contrast between Mahama and Vice President Bawumia.

Omar highlighted the benefits of having facilities like clubs, casinos, and restaurants open around the clock, citing examples from countries like South Africa, Switzerland, and the UK. “Go to South Africa, Switzerland, France, UK, there are so many 24-hour clubs,” he noted.

He emphasized that the policy is not just about afternoon clubbing, but about providing people, especially those working night shifts, with the opportunity to relax and access various facilities at any time of the day. “It’s not about going to clubs in the afternoon, it’s about closing from work after a night shift and being able to go to a club in the morning or afternoon to relax. Nothing is stopping them.”

Omar further explained that the 24-hour economy is about accessibility and convenience. “It’s about being able to access certain facilities at any time of the day. That’s what the 24-hour economy is all about,” he said.
