Story Highlights

  • NPP's Bawumia submits forms, accompanied by party executives
  • Two teams to review forms, with time for corrections.
  • NDC's Mahama to file nomination later.

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, has given assurance that the review of nomination forms for presidential candidates in the 2024 elections will be conducted fairly and thoroughly.

Her statement comes after the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, submitted his nomination forms to the Electoral Commission.

Jean Mensa emphasized that there is sufficient time to address any errors identified in the forms, should corrections be needed, to ensure a smooth review process.

To facilitate the review process, two teams have been established to scrutinize the nomination forms, according to Jean Mensa.

Dr. Bawumia, acknowledging the challenging nature of the Commission’s work, extended his best wishes to the Chairperson and her team as they prepare for the 2024 elections.

The NPP flagbearer was accompanied by his wife, Samira Bawumia, his running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, and his wife, Alma Pokua Adade-Prempeh, during the submission of his nomination forms.

Other party executives, including the National Chairman, Stephen Ntim, General Secretary Justin Koduah Frimpong, Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, and other leading members of the NPP, were also present to provide support and solidarity.

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, is also expected to file his nomination later in the day, setting the stage for a competitive election.

Dr. Bawumia is hoping to break the 8-year jinx and become Ghana’s next president, taking over from his boss, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The submission of nomination forms marks a significant milestone in the lead-up to the 2024 elections, and the Electoral Commission’s review process will be crucial in ensuring the integrity of the electoral process.
