The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, anticipates a magnificent Oguaa Fetu Festival this year.
His Majesty is in Cape Coast for the festival which will be the 60th time it’s being celebrated as well as the climax of the 25th anniversary of Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, the Paramount Chief of the Oguaa Traditional Area.
At a banquet hosted by Osabarima to welcome him and the contingent of eminent Asante traditional leaders that accompanied him to the Central Region on September 5, 2024, Otumfuo urged the world to watch out.
“The Fetu Afahye is going to be grand,” he said expressing confidence in the Planning Committee of the event which is headed by the former Electoral Commission Chairperson, Mrs Charlotte Osei.
As part of his speech, the Asantehene indicated that November would have marked exactly 78 years since his Uncle, Prempeh II journeyed to the Fanteland for an event at the Mfantsipim Girl’s School.
“I wanted to wait till November so that we will calculate the days but I am here today with my brother because he wanted me to be part of the anniversary. Then again, my brother, the Chancellor of Cape Coast University also had programmed for me to come for an honorary doctorate degree so it was scheduled on the 6th and then the 7th for me to be here.
“Cape Coast University had wanted to do it earlier but then my brother insisted it should be within the period of the Oguaa Fetu Afahye so that’s why I came for the honorary degree today then I sit through for the Fetu Afahye.”
