The Chief and residents of Wanchiki in the Chereponi district of the North East Region are making a passionate appeal to the Interior Minister to lift the curfew currently in place in their area.
According to them, peace has been fully restored in the community, making the curfew unnecessary and disruptive to daily life.
The curfew was initially imposed after a communal dispute earlier this year, but the residents argue that it is now harming local businesses and hindering progress.
A peace durbar held in August, led by the Paramount Chief, brought the community together, promoting forgiveness, peace, and unity.
During the durbar, residents affirmed their commitment to maintaining peace, making the continued curfew seem redundant.
Despite this, the Interior Ministry renewed the curfew, sparking widespread disappointment and frustration among local leaders and residents.
The Paramount Chief of Wanchiki has appealed to the Interior Ministry to consider lifting the curfew, highlighting its negative impact on lives and businesses.
Residents have also expressed their discontent, describing the serious consequences of the ongoing power outage in the district, which has lasted nearly three weeks.
The Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) is working to restore power, but the exact cause of the issue remains unknown, adding to the community’s frustration.
The residents of Wanchiki are calling for swift action to lift the curfew and restore electricity, emphasizing their desire to return to normal life and rebuild their community.
