  • Mahama says Akufo-Addo should have resigned over Cedi's decline.

John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s resignation.

Mahama made this statement at a campaign rally in Nkwabeng, a town in the Nkwanta South District, as he concluded his tour of the Bono East Region.

He expressed frustration with the government’s handling of the economy, specifically criticizing the rapid decline of the Cedi.

The Cedi has fallen from more than GH¢15 to one US dollar, a significant depreciation that has increased the cost of living for Ghanaians.

Mahama contrasted the current economic situation with the state of the economy during his administration.

He highlighted differences in inflation and exchange rates, stressing that the depreciation of the Cedi under the current government has placed a heavy burden on households and businesses.

Mahama argued that had President Akufo-Addo and his administration been truly accountable and concerned about the welfare of Ghanaians, the president would have resigned.

He pointed out that the exchange rate was GH¢2 to a dollar during the Atta Mills administration and GH¢4 to a dollar when he took office.

Mahama emphasized that the current exchange rate of GH¢16 to a dollar is unacceptable and that President Akufo-Addo should have resigned long ago.

He concluded by stating that the prices of essential commodities like cement have skyrocketed, making life difficult for Ghanaians.
