In response to escalating tensions related to a chieftaincy dispute, the Minister for the Interior has implemented a curfew in Sampa Township, located in the Jaman North District of the Bono Region.
Effective from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am daily, the curfew was announced on Thursday, September 5, 2024, and will continue until further notice.
Interior Minister Henry Quartey, following recommendations from the Bono Regional Security Council, made this decision to curb potential violence and restore peace in the area.
The government has urged all local leaders, including chiefs, opinion leaders, youth, and residents, to seek peaceful resolutions and avoid violence.
Alongside the curfew, a strict prohibition on the possession of arms, ammunition, and other offensive weapons has been imposed within the township. Minister Quartey warned that violators will face arrest and prosecution, aiming to prevent escalation and ensure public safety.
The ongoing chieftaincy dispute in Sampa has recently intensified, prompting the government’s urgent action. The curfew reflects a serious concern for potential unrest and violence. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and stand ready to take additional measures if necessary.
