Ghanaian actor Edward Agyekum Kufuor recently shared a memorable experience from his acting career, revealing how his portrayal of a character in the film Adam’s Apple left a profound impact on a friend.
In an interview on TV3’s The Afternoon Show on September 4, Kufuor recounted his role as the husband of Nana Ama McBrown in the movie, where his character engages in an affair with his ex-girlfriend, Joselyn Dumas. He described how his performance was so convincing that it led to an amusing mix-up with a friend.
Kufuor recalled an incident at the Aviation gym where he and his wife were working out. A friend approached him, visibly upset, and smacked him for his character’s actions in the film. The friend, who had seen Adam’s Apple, mistook Kufuor’s on-screen persona for his real-life behavior.
“For me, I think it’s the best compliment that your viewers can pay you when you play the role so well that they cannot distinguish between you and the character,” Kufuor said. “It happened to me at Aviation. I was at the gym with my wife, and a friend walked up to me and smacked me. I wasn’t expecting it, and I almost fell off.”
He continued, “I was confused and asked what was going on. She told me, ‘You have a beautiful wife and had an extra marital affair,’ while my wife was standing right beside me. She then clarified, ‘In the Adam’s Apple movie, that’s how you are.’”
Kufuor reflected on the incident, noting, “Later on, I thought I must have left an impression if she felt the need to come up to me and express her feelings. It’s a compliment.”
