Ablakwa Criticizes Bawumia’s Campaign for Misusing Foreign Ministry

- NPP campaign criticized for misusing Foreign Ministry.
- Ablakwa accuses campaign of breaching diplomatic protocols.
- Campaign should have invited diplomats directly, not via Ministry.
- Minority to summon Foreign Minister over incident.
The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential campaign is facing criticism from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Minority in Parliament.
The issue revolves around the use of the Foreign Affairs Ministry to send invitations to diplomats for a meeting with the Bawumia campaign.
Although the campaign requested a meeting with resident diplomats in Ghana, the invitation was issued through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which has raised eyebrows.
North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, stated that this breaches diplomatic protocols and misuses the Foreign Ministry for political purposes.
Ablakwa argued that this practice undermines the credibility of state institutions, especially the Foreign Ministry.
He emphasized that while it’s acceptable for a campaign to invite diplomats for a meeting, the NPP should have done so directly without involving the Ministry.
Ablakwa expressed his concerns, questioning the precedent set by the Foreign Ministry’s involvement. He stated that the minority will seek to bring the Foreign Minister before Parliament to answer questions about the issue.
Ablakwa emphasized that sanctions and measures need to be implemented to prevent a recurrence, highlighting the damage done to the Foreign Ministry’s reputation.
He concluded by emphasizing the high stature of Ghana’s Foreign Ministry and the need to maintain its credibility and dignity.
