UCC to Honor Otumfuo with Prestigious Doctorate Degree Today

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) will award an Honorary Doctorate Degree (Honoris Causa) to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, in a ceremony taking place today, September 5, 2024, at the New Examination Centre.
Major Kofi Baah-Bentum (Rtd), Director of Public Affairs at UCC, stated that this accolade is in recognition of Otumfuo’s exceptional service to Ghana, including his efforts to foster unity and advancement within the Asante Kingdom and beyond.
UCC acknowledges his impactful contributions to various sectors such as water and sanitation, health, education, entrepreneurship, culture, and heritage.
The university also commends his dedication to peace and democracy, particularly his influential role in persuading Ghanaian political leaders to commit to a peaceful electoral process in 2012.
Furthermore, Otumfuo’s leadership as the head of the Mediation Committee, which successfully addressed the Dagbon chieftaincy dispute, and his efforts in resolving over 500 land and chieftaincy conflicts, highlight his significant contributions to conflict resolution and social harmony.
