Renowned music producer and artiste manager Kwesi Ernest has shared the personal and professional challenges he faced following the release of his first gospel song, a journey that led him into a period of depression.

In an exclusive interview with Adom TV’s Maame Boatemaa, Ernest spoke openly about the difficulties he encountered while trying to establish himself in the gospel music industry during the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Reflecting on his early career, Kwesi Ernest described the process of producing his debut gospel album as a harrowing experience. “The issue of doing gospel music during that period was incredibly tough. I released a gospel album, but the struggle to produce it was a journey between heaven and hell for me,” he said.

The financial burden of producing the album was significant, with Ernest taking out loans and investing substantial amounts of money in hopes of a successful launch. However, the outcome was far from what he had anticipated. “I thought I was going to make money, but after the album launch, I was left with nothing,” Ernest lamented.

Despite receiving some support from church members, the album did not achieve the financial success Ernest had hoped for. He revealed that his situation became so dire that he was unable to venture outside due to his depression. “My mother helped me during this difficult time. I was so depressed that I couldn’t go out,” Ernest shared.
