Gospel musician Jak Alolome has clarified that his decision to produce a campaign song for John Mahama, the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), was made independently and not for financial gain. In an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, Alolome explained that the song titled “JM Begye Yen” was created out of his genuine support for Mahama’s ideals.
“Nobody has given me any money,” Alolome stated emphatically during the interview.
Despite his focus on altruism, Alolome did not dismiss the possibility of receiving any form of compensation in the future. “I thought about the country first before doing the song. If anything comes later, Praise God. If that doesn’t happen too, all I am concerned about is to help rescue the country from the hands of the NPP,” he added.
Over the years, several musicians have supported the NDC through their music, including Nacee, Wayoosi, Mr. Beautiful, and Jewel Ackah. Public endorsements for the NDC from the entertainment industry also include figures such as Big Akwes, Christiana Awuni, Mercy Asiedu, and Kofi Okyere Darko.
In its policy announcements, the NDC has proposed a 24-hour economy designed to stimulate Ghana’s economic growth. For the creative arts sector, the party plans to launch ‘The Black Star Experience,’ which aims to become Ghana’s premier Culture, Arts, and Tourism brand. This initiative will involve year-round celebrations across major entertainment, artistic, and educational disciplines to position Ghana as a leading tourism destination.
Additionally, the NDC intends to support young digital content creators, revive the creative arts fund to offer sustainable financial aid to start-ups and established enterprises, and review and enforce broadcasting and local content regulations to boost local artistic production.
